Open Access Policy

When the Global Journal of Pure and Applied Sciences was established in June 1995 the principal aim was to disseminate scientific information arising from scientific researches. The upsurge in the number of submitted manuscripts and those accepted for publication together with popular requests to establish similar journals in other areas of human endeavour necessitated the birth of Global Journal Series. The series comprises of the mother journal, which is Global Journal of Pure and Applied Sciences and ten other journals.

One of the teething problems which confronted Global Journal Series was FUNDING to process and print the journals. In order to overcome this problem assessment fees and page charges were introduced. Efforts were also made to get subscriptions for the journals. It was thought that sufficient funds arising from subscriptions would offset the cost of production. Unfortunately, there are few subscribers and to raise funds the Editorial Board decided to make the journal series subscription-based. Even though there were requests to make the series open access, the requests were not considered. Global Journal Series has paid a price for the delay in making it open-access. For instance, as far back as 2006 the Institute for Scientific Information (now Thomson Reuters) invited the Editorial Board to submit the Global Journal Series for evaluation for inclusion in its database or the web of knowledge. Though the result of the evaluation has still not been released, the Editorial Board believes that a positive result would have been received, if Global Journal Series has been open access.

It is to overcome such problems and to make Global Journal Series visible and accessible to authors and readers that the Editorial Board has decided to make Global Journal Series open access from January 2018. It is the belief of the Editorial Board that this will impact positively on Global Journal Series
